Family Support Services

 

St Chad’s Family Support Services aims to provide a range of groups and activities which work towards meeting the needs of families in the community.

Please check out our links page for links to other organisations such as Family Learning, Gingerbread, Gateshead Council and others which offer help, advice and support for families.


Gardening Course 

Are you interested in growing your own plants and vegetables? Come and help develop our allotment, meet new friends and enjoy the environment. Then why not join our weekly Gardening Course which runs every Friday (term time only) 12.30pm -2.30pm – All welcome.

St Chad's offers a welcoming and helpful environment with a free crèche facility.

Toddler Break 

Toddler Break is a nuture group for children aged 2-4 years to prepare them for nursery and school

Sessions are available on Monday mornings from 9.30am - 11.25am and Thursday afternoons from 12.30pm - 2.25pm. Children are cared for by qualified childcare staff, who will provide your child with the opportunity to enjoy a host of play activities.

Parent and Toddlers 

Parents and Child group - Is held on a Wednesday and Friday mornings 9.15am - 11.15am (times and days may change during school holidays). Here we offer a safe stimulating environment where children learn through play. The group offers children the opportunity to play with other children of the same age, giving them the experience of learning to mix, share and take turns. It gives parents the chance to meet and share experiences and make new friends.


ESOL First Steps Programme 

This is a 10 week free course to promote English, life skills, Social skills, and lots more. First step to enrol students onto ESOL English classes. The course runs every Wednesday (term time only) 12.30pm- 2.30pm and is open to Asylum seekers and other ethnic minorities with English as a second language. A crèche is available for pre-school children which must be booked in advance.


Family Literacy and Numeracy 

Come and see how your child will learn Maths and English when they attend school. This is a 10 week free course. Parents will have the opportunity to gain a formal recognised qualification in English and Numeracy if required. Crèche facilities are available but it must be booked in advance.


Baby Massage 

Learn various techniques of massage for your baby to help combat issues such as colic, tummy discomfort, sleep patterns, restlessness and relaxation. These classes are free and run various times of the year. If you are interested please contact family Support staff for more information.
